"Shadow" is a very smart Pyr, but he doesn't feel the need to show off like his Australian Shepherd brother and sister......but I know how smart he is and I do not let him "slide"!
I am pleased to see so much information becoming available to the general public, but I also worry about the breed becoming too popular then over- bred.
I am probably just being paranoid, I used to own a German Shepherd also, and have only to look in the ring and see what became of them.....

comments : We have a lot of people comment on "Duke". He is an unusual looking dog and quite the character. My husband is in the AF and we were stationed at Soesterberg and lived in Leusden. Our daugher was born in Amersfoort. We did not get to travel too much as we had not only our daughter but 18 month old twins at the time!! Our stay in the Netherlands was brief, only a year, because, as you are aware Soesterberg closed. We did travel around the towns in the North Sea area though and could very well have gone through your town!

He doesn't do much, no tricks, he hardly likes to take a walk, unless it's 30 below, then he's pretty happy to go...BUT, we love him with all our heart. He is so cuddly, it's great to have him curl up on your feet when it's really cold outside. He does bark a lot though, at anything! He also HATES change. Anything new in the house and he is barking for a week at it. Like new furnitue, new people etc. Is this a character trate? comments : I'm looking for information on training a Pyrenees to guard our Katahdin Sheep and Nigerian Dwarf Goats. Misty is a great family dog that has bonded woith our children. I would like a male to keep with our sheep and goats. Last two weeks ago we had a neighbor's dog attack our sheep. We lost one and took seven sheep to the vet's for treatment. Misty does a great job keeping the kids safe but not the livestock. I would like any help or information on training a Pyrenees tow guard our sheep and goats.

comments : My wife and I got our Pyr, Abigail, from an animal shelter. She had been gotten -- I don't know from where -- as a puppy by some people who kept her tied up to a tree in the yard (and Illinois can have brutal weather -- the current temperature is -15 degrees C, and it is expected to get even colder tonight). These people fed her whenever they thought about it. When she was about two years old, they moved away and just left her still tied to the tree. She weighed about 25 kilos when she was rescued. I cannot imagine why anyone would treat any animal like that, especially one that was obviously fairly expensive -- if the shelter had not spayed her, she would be a dog that could be shown.
Two years later, she now weighs 45 kilos, and is pure white -- at least whenever she has been recently bathed She is very affectionate and often demands attention. Her favourite thing is to go for long walks -- there is a park in the next town with about 5 kilometres of paths. She will want to walk all of them when we go there. She sleeps in the corridor which connects the bedrooms in our house, guarding us as we sleep.
When our 15 year old Alsatian dies, we will certainly get another Pyr. For affection, intelligence, and good looks, one cannot do better.

comments : I first saw the Great Pyrenees when picking up a new goat. The owner had a male Pyr, and I was captivated by its size and gentle manner. I did some reading on the breed and decided it would be a perfect addition to the family, since one of our cocker spaniels passed away. I saw an ad for a Great Pyrenees in the paper at what I thought was a very reasonable price. Upon calling the number on the ad, I found that the pup was being offered by the very same person whom we had gotten the goat from. What a surprise, I thought, to have a puppy from the first Pyr I laid eyes on! And we purchased an expecting goat the same day. We decided to christen him "Newt" after a cowboy in the book and TV movie, Lonesome Dove, because he was going to be our 'doggie foreman' for the goats. The only mistake made in that idea, was that we didn't leave Newt in the barn with the goats, and he didn't bond properly with them. He has made a wonderful pet, though, and a friend, if not devoted protector to the goats. If we ever have livestock again, I will not make the same mistake. His name means Newton White Clown, and he is quite an example of a clown! The stories are too numerous to tell, but I remember when he was eight weeks old, proudly carrying a clay pot in his mouth, tail held high. This was an omen of the destruction caused to new plants brought home (since has corrcted this behavior) ! :) If there were a place to display this adorable photo, I would love to post it.

He rides in the cab of my pickup with me and most folks around here recognize him and "his" truck.
Beau and I joined up as part of a birthday gift to me, and I have been in training ever since. (He does have HIS way of doing stuff).
Beau is well mannered and obedient, and is very solicitious of all the animals on my little ranch. He personally raised the six geese we have and he guards all the birds from predators at night; unless it's hot outside; then he prefers to lay under the air conditioner.
Anyhow, as is said around here; Beau is my runnin buddy - we go everywhere together.

We believe in physically sound dogs that make good livestock guards and excellant family members. A lot of our clients get dogs from us to guard their city children from what we like to call two-legged coyotes.

We have a beautiful female named Taste of Spice (Spice) and a wonderfull male named Pegeos Eskimo (Kimo). We live in the mountains and our Pyrs love the snow. Our first Pyr was named Dawn . We had her for many years and it broke our hearts when she passed away.

comments : I recently had my 8 1/2 month old female spayed. She was in heat during this time. It seems since her operation, she has become 'naughty'. She likes to follow our truck up the road, play with the neighbor dogs instead of chasing them off like she used to, and doesn't obey as well. I was wondering if anyone has would have any ideas how to get her to 'stay home', and maybe listen just a little bit better...
She is still a good guard dog at night...we have heard her growl and chase off coyotes! Any responses to my problem may be sent directly to me at my email address...THANKS!

I don't own one yet, but my parents have said that I could get 2 dogs this summer, and I am going to get a Great Pyrenese and a St. Bernard.
