Pyrs : yes.
We live with a almost 4 yr old male pry. He has us very well trained. He loves to steal socks from my husband (that is his invitation to play. He's great to snuggle with. Can't take him anywhere without people wanting to talk to him and it's a must that they touch. They can't get over his coolness and his beauty. His name is Bosco, (Gordon's Big Bear). He will do anything to be around children. He now weighs in @ 150 pounds. Also loves to wrestle, he plays very gentle with me but we have a lot of fun. He can wear me down real fast with his strength. When you talk to him he looks like he would answer if only he could. His coat shimmers in the sun and reminds me of snow glistening in the moon light. If only I had the space to have several pyr, that would be heaven.

Pyrs : Yes.comments : I found my Pyr at the dog pound, where he had been for 3 weeks. This area is a sheep area and has many people of Basque heritage. I have named him Klondike and he is one of the most gentle animals I have met. He does have some of the peculiar traits, not to his breed but to me, such as being his own self. He does not listen much to what I try to get him to do such as sit, stay, lay down and etc. but he loves to play and he loves attention. I have never seen such a dog and I am enjoying this most unusual personality that he has. I have only had him for 1 month but we are thorougly attached to each other. I think he feels he has maybe found dog heaven.

Pyrs : yes.comments : I searched and I searched for a breed of dog that would fit into our family of three dogs, one cat, and two kids. I finally found one. I wanted a large dog that would be very social yet protective of her family. Our gentle giant "Smokey" fits right in. We have only had her a short time, and she has already stolen our hearts..I love looking at the wonderful pictures of these dogs. Keep up the good work!!

Pyrs : yes - one.comments : Our big white dog joined our family almost one year ago. Darby is Morgan's (our lab) best friend. Darby loves to dig holes in the garden, eat the bark off the trees and wrestle with Morgan. She is also very fascinated by our siamese cat and chases him around the house whenever possible..She is the most beautiful dog we've ever seen and as long as our lifestyle permits we will always have a pyr in our home.

Pyrs : yes.comments : Great Pyranees are the best dogs. We have one pyr, Max who is a big baby. We just lost our first pyr last month from cancer. Her name was Belle. We named her after the show "Belle et Sebastion" that I used to watch on TV when I was little. We are planning to get another pyranees this summer when I will be home from college. They are beautiful dogs.

Pyrs : one six year old female pyr.comments : Just after buying our first house I happened to be speaking with one of my co-workers about wanting a Great Pyrenees. By sheer luck she happened to know of a woman in a situation which found her needing a home for her female Pyr. Right away my husband and I visited the woman and were won over by Puff. What a sight to behold! It was the first time I had actually been able to pet a Pyr. The only other time I had seen a Pyr were through the many books and magazine articles I had read. My interest all began with a cartoon on Nickelodeon (sp?) Belle and Sebastian...anyone remember that cartoon? If I am not mistaken Belle was a Pyr. That's what all started it, didn't even know what breed it was but since I was a kid it was love at first sight!.Bethany Riley

Pyrs : first Pyr 1977-1986, second just over 1 yr. old.comments: Our Great Pyrenees "Cola" is the great-great-great-granddaughter of our very first Pyr. We had a 10-year interval between Pyr's and we were so thrilled that "Cola" was descended from our first dog "Sherry". We got her from Val Toth in Ancaster Ontario which is only a 45 minute drive from our home. She was still breeding Pyrs after all these years. I have some Pyr artifacts that I have cherished through the years (a hard copy of Paul Strang's book "The Complete "Great Pyrenees", plus postage stamps depicting the breed and a rather old calendar of Pyr line drawings made by one of Britain's top dog artists. I checked the perpetual calendar and discovered I could use it again in the year 2015 (if I'm still around)..Karen Celeste

So has "Max", our German Shepperd, who is now continually getting beaten up and eaten by "Ice", eventhough she is half his size.."Ice" has got a wonderful loving temperament and when brushed is just one big energetic ball of fluff. Everyone she meets wants to take her home they like her so much. This is our first experience of owning a Pyr but I'm sure it will not be our last.

His father was from the Netherlands - I'd have to go back to my paperwork and look him up, but I think his name was Kyros The King. I love the Pyr's with a lot of color, which does not seem to be a favorite look for the U.S. breeders. The older generations of the European dogs are handsome looking, I wonder when/why the pure white dog became so prevalent in the U.S. rings. Kinda boring.

Pyrs : one, Mr Bigg
Mr Bigg came to us approximately 3 months ago as a 2-year-old stray. He is most defintely a gift from God as I was still grieving the loss of my previous pyr, Conan. I have only one concern and would appreciate any advice available on this subject. How can I curb his night barking? Now that the weather is warmer, he is sleeping more during the day and wants to be up all night barking. It does not seem to be affected whether he is indoors or out and it is not the influence of a full moon, either. He doesn't do this everynight, about once or twice a week. I live in the city and I know my neighbors do not have an appreciation for his enormous bark. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it.

Pyrs: Yes: 3, one maale 6 years, one male 5 years and one female 9 months., We love them all.
My wife (Kristi) is the editor of the newsletter of the Norsk Pyreneerhund Klubb ("Great Pyreneans Club of Norway"). We are frequently surfing the net for info for our newsletter, so please feel free to e-mail us stories and info that may be of interest for Norwegian Pyr-owners & breeders.
There has been a couple of projects lately for testing the Pyr as LGD in Norway, with a lot of disagreement among the different interest groups (breeders, farmers, authorities, etc.). Where the main issue is that sheeps are left unattended in non-fenced areas in the mountains during the summer.
At the same time there are a lot of discussions going on regarding the administration of predators in Norway. We are therefore interested in experiences with Great Pyreneans as LGD, to print in our newsletter.

In 1994, "Moose" came into the world with seven of her brothers and sisters. The Dam, was not able to nurse the pups, so after one week after hearing of their birth we inherited six, one week old pups, without their eyes yet opened. They needed feeding every four hours, for a month, but turned out to be gorgeous!! Moose is now three + and has grown into a fine "white lady" and is more a blessing every day. She sleeps out in front of the door to the bedroom, or in front of the bed to protect me from whatever. I will try to find a couple of photos to send you, if I am able. It is wonderful to know that this regal, strong and extremely kind dog is appreciated by others. Keep up the good work of promoting the Pyr!! Sincerely, Dan from Houston

MY POOR BABY, THIS IS A SAD BUT CHARMING STORY. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO, BY POOR BABY, BANDIT, MADE A BAD DECISION. HE WAS ONLY 18 WEEKS OLD AT THE TIME AND I KNOW HIS LITTLE MIND IS NOT FULLY DEVELOPED YET. MY HUSBAND CAME HOME FROM WORK, AND DRIVING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY (OF COURSE VERY SLOW) BANDI IN HIS EXCITMENT TO GREET HIM WALKED IN FRONT OF HIS PICKUP. WELL MY HUSBAND STOPPED AND BANDIT CLEARED THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK, BUT HE DECIDED TO WALK BACK AND TRIPPED OVER HIS OVER SIZED PAWS AND MY HUSBAND HIT HIM. POOR BANDIT THOUGHT HE HAD DIED. HIS REAR LEG WAS INJURED AND HE CRIED WITH PAIN. WHEN I GOT HOME A FEW MINUTES LATER THE CRYING AND HOWLING GOT WORSE, HE KNOWS MAMA WILL TAKE CARE OF HIM. HE WAS CARRIED INTO THE HOUSE AND BABIED FOR ALL HE COULD GET. THIS WAS THE FIRST PAIN HE HAD EVER EXPERIENCED AND I KNOW IT SCARED HIM. WELL TO THE VET WE GO, AND HIS LEG IS CRACKED IN THREE PLACES IN WHAT WOULD BE OUR SHIN. THE VET PUTS A CAST ON IT AND BANDIT IS ! CARRIED HOME. AS THE DAYS GO BY BANDIT IS CARRIED, AND CARRIED, AND CARRIED, AND CARRIED. HE WAS CARRIED OUTSIDE TO POTTIE, HIS FOOD AND WATER DISHES WERE PLACED IN FRONT OF HIM, ACTUALLY HE WANTED FOR NOTHING. HE COULD STAY IN THE HOUSE, GET EXTRA TREATS, AND MAMA SITTING BESIDE HIM, PETTING HIM FOR HOURS. NOW AT THIS POINT I STRONGLY BELIVE HE HAD A PLAN..HE LIKED THIS ATTENTION AND WASN'T READY TO GIVE IT UP. ONE DAY ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THE CAST WAS PUT ON, I SAW BANDIT TRYING TO GET UP AND WALK THROUGH A WINDOW, I WAS SO EXCITED, BECAUSE UP TO THIS POINT HE WOULD NOT EVEN TRY. SO I RAN OUT THE DOOR ALL EXCITED TELLING HIM TO COME TO ME AND GET HIS DOGGIE TREAT, WELL LOW AND BEHOLD THE MINUTE HE SAW ME, HE LAYED BACK DOWN AND STARTED CRYING AND REFUSED TO TRY TO GET UP. SO I THOUGHT WELL MAYBE HE WAS STILL IN PAIN, SO I GAVE HIM HIS TREAT AND RETURNED TO THE HOUSE. AS SOON AS MY BACK WAS TURNED HE GOT UP AND WALKED, DRAGGING HIS CASTED LEG. AGAIN, I WAS EXCITED AND L! ET HIM KNOW IT, BUT AGAIN DOWN HE WENT AND REFUSED TO GET UP. TH IS WENT ON FOR SEVERAL DAYS, WHILE I AM STILL CARRYING HIM IN AND OUT, SETTING HIS DISH IN FRONT OF HIM, BRUSHING HIM, PETTING HIM AND HAND FEEDING HIM. THIS PUPPY IS REALLY SMARTER THAN I THOUGHT, HE HIT THE MOTHER LOAD AND WAS NOT ABOUT TO GIVE IT UP. WELL HE MESSED UP, HE USUALLY GREETS ME AT THE DOOR OF MY PICKUP WHEN I COME HOME FROM WORK, WITH A WET KISS AND HIS HEAD LAYING IN MY LAP UNTIL I GET OUT OF THE TRUCK. I GUESS HE FORGOT HIS PLAN ONE DAY, AND DID HIS USUAL GREETING, I WAS SO EXCITED, THINKING MY CARRYING DAYS WERE OVER, PUT SOMETHING MUST OF CLICKED IN HIS MIND, WHEN HE REALIZED WHAT HE WAS DOING, BECAUSE HE LAID DOWN AND DID HIS USUAL CRYING AND HOWLING IN PAIN. I LEFT HIM WHERE HE WAS AND WENT INTO THE HOUSE, HE LOOKED AT ME WITH SUCH A STRANGE LOOK, AS IF TO SAY "I'M HURT, I'M THE BABY, CARRY ME". WELL I MUST SAY, BANDIT'S DAYS OF BEING CARRIED WERE OVER THEN. HE STILL HAS TO BE CARRIED UP AND DOWN STEPS, BUT OTHER THAN THAT HE WALKS. BANDIT WEIGHS AB! OUT 35 POUNDS AND A TEN POUND CAST ON TOP OF THAT, WELL HE MIGHT AS WELL OF WEIGHED A TON. ANYWAY, THAT'S MY STORY ABOUT MY BABY, AND I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN FOR HIM, BUT I THINK I WOULD BE A LITTLE SMARTER THAN HE IS THE NEXT TIME, HOPEFULLY THERE WILL NEVER BE A NEXT TIME. SIGNED TAKING CARE OF MY POOR BABY

I love Pyrs and will never own another breed. We are now on our second Pyr, a 1 1/2 year old female. Our male Pyr died 1 1/2 years ago at the age of 12. Our family lasted only 1/2 day without a Pyr in the house. Fortunately for us there was a breeder right in our city with a Pyr puppy that we could take home that afternoon. Our male was dignified and reserved, but our new "baby" is quite a character and much more aggressive in her guarding of family members. We delight in this breed and can't imagine ever being without one. In fact, if we move to a city with more space available I would love to own more than one Pyr. Are there any Pyr magazines one can subscribe to? Thanks for providing all us Pyr lovers with a web site.
